In the case of wikipedia's open content and in my experience, it eliminates adult supervision and the result is crap, because open source groups become dominated by bullies. In the case of open source, no consistent style is followed and nobody is accountable. Furthermore, it is a species of virtual slavery. In many projects it appears that the most intelligent contributors are unwilling to interact with loud-mouthed bullies. Their content is taken and they are then driven away for "not being cooperative". Their content is then commercialized when we "get to" getting paid. Open source is a Peter Pan fantasy.
